Processing a prescription means from receipt of the repeat prescription request, reauthorizing medication and signing.  It does not include dispensing medication and does not include any transfer of paperwork to other pharmacies.

You can request your repeat prescription in a number of ways: -

In Person - drop the repeat slip attached to your last prescription in at reception having clearly marked the items required.

By post - send it to us with a stamped addressed envelope if you want us to post it back to you.

In writing - to the any of the surgeries.

Online - via the link at the top of this page.  Before you can start using Systmonline* you will need to be provided with a unique login username and password which you can obtain by contacting your surgery.

In Advance - When Patients pick up their medication from the surgery they can leave their repeat slip for the following month.  The request will be marked forward in the diary so that the dispensers can ensure the medication is ready when it is due the following month.

What is a repeat prescription?

A repeat prescription means patients can have medicines dispensed on several occasions rather than going back to their GP each time. This needs to be done as easily as possible for the patient but it is also important that it is done as safely as possible. Some medicines only work if they are taken correctly and some can be dangerous if taken incorrectly, some cause side effects and some need regular check ups or blood tests to make sure they are working.

When you receive your repeat prescription it will show on the counterfoil on the right-hand side, the name of the medication, the quantity to take, the quantity issued and in brackets, the amount of repeats you can have before you need to be reviewed by the doctor, e.g. (1/6 means you can have six issues of the medication before you need to be reviewed by the doctor and you have had one of those issues already).

Once you have reached the final amount,e.g.6/6, no further prescriptions can be issued without reauthorisation by the doctor.

The general rule is that we can only issue a month's medication at a time.

*Systmonline is our online facility that allows you to securely order repeat medication, view, book and cancel routine doctors appointments from home, work or on the move - wherever you can connect to the internet - 24 hours a day.
